The Ganpati Festival (Parva) is a major celebration of our nation. From east to west and from north to south every one dances and serves the almighty Ganesh for his blessings. Visarjan maybe overwhelming and heart-sobbing but these ten restless days were full of joy and enthusiasm. The visarjan is what ends up this great fest. But do you know why and how Ganeshji is merged into water bodies?

Here’s the story:

At the time of Mahabharat, when Rishi Vedvyaas started reciting the whole event to the lord himself, Ganesh on the occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi. Consistenly for ten consecutive days and Ganpati was writing it down and as the Rishi opened his eyes after narrating the whole story, he saw Ganesha’s body got heated up due to exhaustion. After which Rishi Vedvyaas took him to a nearby river and bathes him to cool him down.

That is how the ritual of keeping Ganesha for 10 days started, in these ten days, to keep him calm, several delicious dishes along with flowers and Ganesh’s very favorite – Modak are served to him.
