Delhi's Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has been sentenced to judicial custody until April 15 in a case related to money laundering linked to the excise policy. This decision came after his time in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) came to an end.
During his appearance in court before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, Kejriwal's lawyers requested permission for him to have certain books and medications while in jail. Among the books he asked for are those about the religious figures Ram and Krishna, as well as some on the Prime Minister. The ED had sought a 15-day extension of his custody, claiming Kejriwal was uncooperative.
Before entering the court, Kejriwal expressed his disapproval of the Prime Minister's actions, referring to his own arrest, saying it's detrimental to the country. In attendance were AAP ministers Atishi, Saurabh Bhardwaj, and Kejriwal's wife Sunita.
It has not yet been determined which section of Tihar Jail Kejriwal will be placed in. Other AAP leaders like Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, and K. Kavita are in separate sections.
Tihar Jail Routine
In Tihar Jail, prisoners have a set routine. They wake up at sunrise, have breakfast at 6:40 AM, and lunch at 11 AM. There's a break from 12 PM to 3 PM, followed by tea and biscuits, and then dinner at 5:30 PM. They're locked in their cells by 6:30 or 7 PM. TV is allowed from 5 AM to 11 PM, but with limited channels.
Arvind Kejriwal's ED Custody
Kejriwal was initially arrested by the ED on March 21 and kept in custody until March 28, which was later extended until April 1. Judge Kaweri Baweja extended his custody, allowing him to meet family and lawyers. The ED sought further extension citing the need to confront Kejriwal with collected evidence, which the court granted until April 1.
