New Delhi: The Central government has filed an affidavit in the apex court stating that more than four lakh people without identity cards have been vaccinated. To this, Justice DY Chandrachud said that the figure is very small. Defending the government on the matter, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati said the figure has now reached 77 lakh and 14 lakh such people have been given the second dose of the vaccine.

On behalf of the central government, Aishwarya Bhati said she will file a fresh affidavit on vaccination of beggars and homeless people. The top court also asked the Delhi government to file an affidavit. Earlier, the Centre had filed an affidavit in the top court on vaccination, saying that covid-19 vaccination is not mandatory and no person can be forced to get vaccinated against his will.

The central government had said in the court, "Vaccination is not a mandate. The government has not issued any SOP, which makes the vaccination certificate mandatory for any purpose. The guidelines of the Central Government do not envisage any forced vaccination without obtaining the consent of the person concerned."
