Srinagar: After the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, 34 people from outside have bought the property in the Valley. The Union Home Ministry informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday in this regard. The ministry said the properties have been purchased in Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur and Ganderbal districts in the UT. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai has informed in a written reply that as per the information received from the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, 34 people from outside the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have purchased property here.''
Due to Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir had got special status, due to which people from outside were not allowed to buy property here. The section was revoked on August 5, 2019. The then state was divided into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had recently said that after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, there has been a decline in terrorist activities there. There is also a better environment for investment. The Finance Minister said this while replying to a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the Budget of Jammu and Kashmir and supplementary demands for grants related to it.
Sitharaman had pointed out that after the abrogation of Article 370, 890 central laws were implemented in the Union Territory. People who earlier had no rights there can now get government jobs and buy land. As many as 250 discriminatory state laws from Jammu and Kashmir have been repealed and 137 laws amended.
