How much salary do Imams get? CIC took this step after RTI did not respond

New Delhi: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has summoned the officials of the Lieutenant Governor, and Chief Minister's Office for not disclosing the salary given to the Imams of mosques in Delhi under RTI. In fact, on the petition of activist Subhash Aggarwal, Information Commissioner Uday Mahurkar has also sent a notice to the officials of the Delhi Waqf Board. It is worth mentioning that, last month Central Information Commissioner Uday Mahurkar wrote a letter to LG VK Saxena of Delhi.

In fact, Subhash Aggarwal, through his application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, had sought complete information about the salary paid to the Imams in the mosques of Delhi. He tried to know the total number of mosques in Delhi where imams are paid salaries, including the amount, annual expenditure and the details of the competent authority responsible for the payment. At the same time, through his RTI application, Subhash Aggarwal also asked whether the priests of Hindu temples are also being paid this kind of salary. Although the LG and the CM office did not respond to the RTI application, the Chief Secretary's office transferred it to the Revenue Department and the Delhi Waqf Board. At the same time, Delhi Waqf Board said in its reply to Agarwal that no question is related to this.

In this matter, Information Commissioner Uday Mahurkar has also issued notices to the Public Information Officers of both these departments asking them to appear for the hearing on November 18. Along with this, all the officers have been asked to bring all the files related to the case for hearing.
