Hyderabad Municipality makes the best use of Lockdown in developing the city

The lockdown period in Hyderabad proved to be very beneficial as the Punjagutta steel bridge works that commenced on February 29 this year and got completed by May 31. This is perhaps a record in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)’s engineering works. A striking aspect here is that these works were executed by the municipal corporation during the lockdown period. In was to be completed in six months as per the agreement but got completed in about three months.

GHMC made good use of the traffic-free period during the lockdown and completed the structure. Similarly, the municipal corporation completed critical works under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) worth over Rs 62 crore during the lockdown period. In all, three flyovers, including the first-level Biodiversity flyover, RHS flyover at Kamineni and LHS underpass at LB Nagar junction, were launched a couple of months back. Many critical works pertaining to different projects were completed during the lockdown.

To name a few, the excavation and footing of 16 pillars for OU Colony (Shaikpet) flyover, 20 critical foundations and pier cap concrete for Kothaguda and Kondapur junction, cable-stayed bridge works at Durgam Cheruvu and 16 foundations for Shilpa Layout flyover, Gachibowli, five out of the nine footings for Khaitlapur ROB, majority of the foundations for flyovers at Owaisi Hospital junction and Bahadurpura junction were completed. The majority of the works were executed with three times faster pace than during the normal days, said a senior official from GHMC.
