Hyundai Mobis exhibits concept vehicles with rotating wheels at CES

At the recently ended CES 2022, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai's part supplier, displayed a pair of mobility concept vehicles with unique 90-degree rotation wheels. Along with their innovative wheels, the concept vehicles, M.Vision Pop electric vehicle and M.Vision 2GO hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, also offered communication lighting systems and cargo storage.

The brand first offered these autos last year. Hyundai Mobis has been developing on a system that merges the steering, braking, suspension, and driving systems into the wheel, eliminating the need for any mechanical connections between pieces, which was demonstrated at CES 2018. These cars feature a tiny, boxy appearance and are equipped with advanced autonomous driving technology, which is mainly meant for shared mobility.

According the company, this technology will assist these vehicles in managing space in a smart and efficient manner. It also implies that the wheels can rotate 360 degrees and sideways, making tasks like parking more convenient in the future. The company is currently conducting reliability testing, which will be followed by a mass production feasibility study. By 2023, Hyundai Mobis expects to have the system installed on a working skateboard chassis.

Both the M.Vision Pop and M.Vision 2GO have been designed to accommodate the folding steering wheel that was introduced last year, according to the brand. Hyundai Mobis Vice President of Communication Jin-ho Park expressed his delight at the positive response to his company's innovation at the event. "It's an honour to play a key role in helping our OEM and technology partners achieve their future mobility goals with the vehicle technologies we're demonstrating at CES," Park continued.
