Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh reached his hometown Nagpur for the first time in 15 months after his release from jail. Here on Saturday, he alleged that he has been implicated in false cases. In fact, the NCP leader, who was released on bail, was given a grand welcome by the party workers on his arrival at the Nagpur airport.
Subsequently, he said in a press conference, "I was accused of Rs 100 crore (laundering), but in the charge sheet the amount was reduced to Rs 1.71 crore. Agencies failed to produce evidence for Rs 1.71 crore as well." Deshmukh claimed that the High Court observed that there was no substance in the cases registered against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He said that former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, who leveled corruption charges against him, did not appear before the Chandiwal Commission set up to inquire into the allegations.
Let us tell you that Deshmukh, an MLA from Katol in Nagpur district and a resident of Nagpur city, was released on bail in December 2022, more than a year after he was arrested by the ED on charges of money laundering. Since then he has been continuously accusing himself of being implicated in false cases.
