When the cricket boards of all the countries associated with the apex body International Cricket Council join the meeting on Thursday through video conferencing, the primary agenda of discussion will be the nomination process for the election of the next president as the ICC has already made it clear that the final decision on the fate of the T-20 World Cups will be taken next month. Currently, this post is with Shashank Manohar of India. On giving information about the development, the ICC board member, on the condition of anonymity, said, 'I am still not sure whether the date (or selection) of the election will be announced. The primary agenda is apparently to discuss the nomination process for the replacement of Shashank Manohar. Since all the members will meet, they will update the status of the board of their respective countries.' However, no concrete announcement is expected.

The member said that the board can also be informed about the ongoing investigation in the case of specific email leaks. In order to present candidature for the post of Chairman, it is mandatory for the member to attend at least two board meetings and simultaneously needs to be nominated by the current or former director (board member) of the country concerned. The ICC Board consists of Chairman, 12 Test-playing countries, 3 Associate Members (Malaysia, Scotland, and Singapore as per Bari), Independent Women Director (Indira Nooyi), and Chief Executive Madhu Sahni. In the event of an election, the Chief Executive does not have the right to vote. Currently, former England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman Colin Graves is a strong contender to replace Manohar as chairman of the global body, but the claim of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) chairman Sourav Ganguly cannot be ignored. Neither Ganguly nor the BCCI has ruled out the possibility of his claim, but much will depend on whether the High Court accepts the interim application of the BCCI which has appealed to Ganguly and Secretary Jai Shah for six years. After the rule should be exempted from the rule of a compulsory break.

Pakistan Cricket Board President Ehsan Money has already separated himself from this race. If the exemption from compulsory break is given, then it is not a bad idea to present Ganguly's claim. A BCCI source said, "We do not yet know whether Sourav Ganguly has political wishes or not." If this happens, then he can become the ICC chairman for a year and after this, in the 2021 West Bengal elections, he can be the candidate of the Chief Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
