IIT Delhi Launches New MA Program in Culture, Society, and Thought

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has unveiled a fresh academic offering, the Master of Arts in Culture, Society, and Thought, through its Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.

This full-time two-year program will delve into the realms of culture, society, and thought, drawing from key disciplines such as sociology, literature, and philosophy, as per a recent announcement from the institute.

Applications for this innovative program will open on March 20, 2024, for the academic year commencing in July 2024. Prospective candidates have until April 4, 2024, to submit their applications.

Eligible applicants, holding a bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of 55% or equivalent CGPA in BA, and a first division in other degrees, can apply through the Institute’s PG admission portal.

The admission process will involve shortlisting based on an entrance examination or GATE 2024 score (XH), followed by interviews in May 2024. The fee structure will align with other postgraduate programs at the institute.

Professor Farhana Ibrahim, the head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, highlighted the significance of the program, stating, “The new MA program delves into contemporary aspects and interdisciplinary approaches within the Humanities and Social Sciences. Its affiliation with IIT Delhi provides a unique perspective to cultivate new knowledge, establish fresh archives, and develop critical methodologies for reshaping research in humanities and social sciences globally.”

She further emphasized, “The program allows students to explore courses spanning traditional disciplines and foster collaborations with existing Master’s programs like Cognitive Science and Economics.”

Graduates from this program will be equipped for various career paths including research, academia, social work, think tanks, media, and policymaking in governmental and non-governmental organizations, research institutes, and social entrepreneurship ventures. Additionally, they will be eligible for doctoral programs offered by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Delhi or other international institutions.

IIT Delhi will host an open house on March 15, 2024, providing interested candidates with insights into the program's structure, fees, faculty, scholarships, accommodations, academic and career opportunities, among other aspects.
