Chennai: Many people have been shocked and alarmed by the COVID-19 cases at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, in recent days. New cases have added to the concerns. IIT Madras' COVID tally has reached 171 as of today. Today, April 28, 2022, over 25 new cases have been recorded, pushing the COVID tally even higher.

According to accounts, the COVID cluster at IIT Madras is still isolated within the campus. The officials have warned residents not to be alarmed while the institute conducts tests. More than 6,000 test samples were gathered between April 19 and April 28, 2022, according to local media sources.

According to earlier accounts, IIT Madras reported a total of 111 COVID cases. "Total 171 Covid19 cases found in IIT-Madras campus till date," said TN Health Secretary Dr. J Radhakrishnan in a press conference today. Furthermore, the Health Secretary stated that IIT Madras is not currently closed. The government and authorities are doing everything possible to prevent the COVID cluster at IIT Madras from spreading to other locations.

In the meantime, IIT Madras has urged people to get tested if they exhibit any symptoms. Furthermore, everyone has been urged to wear masks, keep a safe distance from others, and follow all COVID-19 safety rules.
