IIT students protests buried in anti-'Agneepath' violence

Hyderabad:  Violent protests are taking place in several states of the country against the Agneepath scheme brought by the central government. After the protests that started from Bihar, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan are now witnessing a lot of opposition to this scheme. Due to these violent protests, public property has been badly damaged. At the same time, amid this violence and rioting, the protest of the students of IIIT Basra in Telangana has been suppressed, it is not even mentioned on any news channel or social media.

These students have been on the streets for 3 consecutive days in protest against the Telangana government for their basic needs, but it was not even discussed in any of the mainstream media or in the so-called prime time, perhaps these students did not burn any train or blow up a police station, or attack any officer. So this performance is not being considered a 'performance'.  

 In fact, the students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technology (RGUKT) in Telangana have been continuously protesting against the government since Wednesday (June 15, 2022). Thousands of students at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT Basara) at Basra in Nirmal district are protesting by staging a sit-in at the building chief demanding poor quality of food, improvement in infrastructure and appointment of a regular vice-chancellor. These students are only demanding basic amenities from the Telangana government, but even after that, they are being ignored.

According to reports, the RGUKT in which the protest is going on in Telangana. He is also known as IIT Basra. For the third consecutive day, thousands of students are staging a sit-in demanding good food, lab and other educational facilities. They have been opposing the poor quality of food and demanding the state government to consider the appointment of a permanent vice-chancellor along with the infrastructure so that the system is strengthened.

The students have also urged CM K Chandrasekhar Rao and Information and Technology Minister K T Rama Rao to come to RGUKT and see for themselves what kind of problems the students are facing. Many students have also claimed to have found small insects and frogs in the hostel food. The students say that they have to stay in the hostel without laptops, dresses, mattresses, fans and other facilities. 

RGUKT or IIT Basra is one of the three IITs set up in Andhra in 2008 during the tenure of former Andhra Pradesh CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy. It is currently the only IIT in Telangana after its separation from Andhra on June 2, 2014. It is located at Basra in Nirmal district of north Telangana.
