New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered the Arvind Kejriwal government to demolish an illegally constructed temple on public land in South Delhi's Defence Colony. The high court has granted 10 days time to the government for the same. At the same time, the High Court has directed the concerned police station in charge to keep the idols kept in the temple in a nearby temple so that the sanctity of these idols is maintained and the sentiments of the devotees are respected.

Justice Rekha Palli in her order said that the report and facts presented show that there is no religious activity taking place in the illegally constructed temple on public land and it should be removed. She has said that once the Supreme Court had already directed that no unauthorised construction would be allowed in the name of temple or gurudwara, there is no question as to why encroachments should not be removed expeditiously so that it is not misused.

Justice Palli has ordered the government to remove the temple illegally constructed by a person in front of private property in the Defence Colony area within 10 days. At the same time, Delhi Police has been directed to cooperate with the government in removing the temple. The High Court has said that the competent authority has been careless about the problem of the city for the past several years. When Supreme Court and High Court have found encroachment then where is the question of the religious committee.
