New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for various parts of Delhi, forecasting moderate rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds. The alert, covering most areas of the national capital, warns residents to brace for potential weather disruptions over the next few hours. The IMD has advised caution due to the risk of localized waterlogging and traffic delays caused by heavy downpours.

At Indira Gandhi International Airport, delays in arrivals and departures are being reported due to the rain, though no cancellations have been noted. Airlines are issuing advisories to passengers to manage their travel plans accordingly. On Friday afternoon, rain swept across parts of Delhi, with more showers anticipated as overcast skies persist. Central and southern Delhi were particularly affected by the downpour.

The weather department predicts that light to moderate rainfall will continue in most areas of Delhi. Thursday night's heavy rains resulted in significant waterlogging and traffic jams across the city. The minimum temperature has dropped to 21.4°C, four degrees below normal. Safdarjung recorded 29.6 mm of rainfall, with other areas such as the Ridge, Delhi University, and Lodhi Road also experiencing substantial rain.

Many city roads were submerged, leading to severe traffic disruptions. The Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to avoid waterlogged areas and use alternate routes. Major roads, including NH-48, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Outer Ring Road, and Rohtak Road, experienced heavy traffic due to the flooding. The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain continuing throughout the day, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 30°C.
