Supreme Court to hear on the protection of realty customers

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear a PIL on Monday seeking directions to the Central government to prepare a model agreement for builders and agent buyers for the protection of consumers. It also seeks transparency in the realty sector as per the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) Act, 2016.

The petition was filed by Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice B.V. Nagratna is listed for hearing before the bench. The petition was filed by advocate and BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay. Through this, all States have been requested to direct them to implement model builder buyer agreement and model agent buyer agreement and take steps to protect consumers from mental, physical and financial trauma. The petition said, "Promoters, builders and agents mainly use arbitrary and unilateral agreements which are in violation of Articles 14, 15, 21 of the Constitution.

The petition filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Dubey said that due to the delay in getting possession of houses or flats, real estate customers are not only facing mental and financial trauma but also serious violation of their rights to life and livelihood.
