New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today unveiled the 17th Foundation Day of the National Disaster Management Authority. The theme of this year's Foundation Day is 'The Widespread Impact of Disaster Cases in the Himalayan Region.' Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the National Disaster Management Authority, NDRF and SDRF have worked to change the history of disaster management of the country in 17 years and link the sensitivity of the entire country with disaster management.

The same Amit Shah launched the 'Aapda Mitra Yojana' and said that this launch will help the people stranded in the flood-affected areas in seconds. Referring to the Aapda Mitra Yojana, he said that if disasters in any area are to be reported quickly, only these people can do this, only Aapda Mitra can do it in villages. The concept of Aapda Mitra is very spectacular, people need to be prepared for disaster.

The same Amit Shah further said, "Aapda Mitra has been experimentally launched in 30 flood-affected districts in 25 states. 5,500 Aapda Mitra have been added to it. Now, we are going to set up the Disaster Mitra Yojana in 350 cities that are affected by the disaster. The event discussed the wide impact of disaster events including landslides, cloudbursts, earthquakes and glacier lake outbreak floods in the Himalayan region.''
