Tel Aviv: During a huge anti-terror operation in the Jordan Valley in the West Bank, Israeli security forces apprehended nine Palestinian suspects, according to the army.

Hundreds of army troops and Israeli police officers worked in the Jordan Valley overnight between Sunday and Monday as part of "an operation to impede terrorist operations and confiscate weapon infrastructure in the area," according to a military official reported by the state media.

According to the spokesperson, the nine Palestinian suspects were brought to the Israeli Border Police for questioning, and 16 cars, a weapon, and stolen military ammunition and equipment were collected.

The raid provoked conflicts between Palestinians and Israeli forces in various areas, with dozens of demonstrators hurling rocks and an improvised explosive device at troops who retaliated with "riot dispersal methods."

Security authorities disrupted a smuggling attempt in the Jordan Valley on January 25, according to a joint police-army statement, capturing 53 firearms, including 39 handguns, 10 Kalashnikov assault rifles, and four M16 assault rifles.  The Jordan Valley is located in the West Bank, which Israel annexed in the 1967 Middle East conflict.
