PM Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Hiroshima, Japan on Saturday. Meanwhile, talks have also taken place between the two countries. This is the first time that there has been a face-to-face meeting and discussion in the middle of the war.

Due to the same discussion, Prime Minister Modi said, Ukraine war is a big issue for the world. The effect of this war is on the whole world. I do not consider it just an issue, but for me it is an issue of economy, politics and humanity. India and I will do whatever we can to resolve the war. You (Ukraine) know more than all of us what the pain of war is. Ukraine is an issue of humanity for me. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also present in this meeting. Prime Minister Modi has reached Hiroshima, Japan on 19th May to attend the G-7 Summit. Earlier, he discussed with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida several global challenges under the G-7 and G-20 chairpersonships of Japan and India. On Saturday, he unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The Prime Minister has also met US President Joe Biden.

After the invitation of Japan, the President of Ukraine had also come to participate in the G7 summit. Significantly, in the month of April last year, Russia attacked Ukraine, naming it as a special military operation. This is the first meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Ukrainian President Zelensky after the Russian attack on Ukraine. After the start of the war with Russia, Ukrainian President Zelensky called PM Modi several times and appealed to intervene to stop the war.
