India on Friday appointed Olympic gold medalist Yanke Shopman as the analysis coach of the women's team to strengthen the support staff of the hockey team ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. The former Netherlands star was part of the team that captured the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Yanke will join the team at the national camp going on at the Sai Center in Bengaluru on Saturday. She will be with the team for the opening match of the season against New Zealand in which India will play against hosts and Britain. Yanke has been appointed to this position until the Tokyo Olympics.

She has said, 'I am really excited about working with the Indian women's hockey team. I have seen his game in the last few times and I believe that he is a very talented and determined player. I am excited to contribute in achieving good results for India. She was the head coach of the US national women's hockey team from 2016 to 2019.
