India has taken a firm stand against recent remarks made by a US state department official regarding the arrest of Delhi's Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal. On Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned Gloria Berbena, the Acting Deputy Chief of Mission from the US embassy, to express its strong objection to the comments.

The meeting, which took place at the ministry's office in South Block, lasted for over 30 minutes. Reports suggest that the US official had stated that Washington supported a fair, transparent, and prompt legal process for Chief Minister Kejriwal.

Kejriwal was recently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to an excise policy 'scam'. The case revolves around allegations of corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's excise policy for the fiscal year 2021-22, which was subsequently annulled.

India's move to summon the US diplomat underscores its commitment to ensuring due process and sovereignty in matters concerning its internal affairs.
