New Delhi: The Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Manmohan, cautioned lawyers on Wednesday against staging protests on court premises following the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Aam Aadmi Party's legal cell had called for a protest in district courts in response to Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to Delhi's excise policy.
Justice Manmohan emphasized the seriousness of such actions, stating that the consequences would be severe. He asserted that courts cannot be obstructed or halted, and individuals have the right to approach the court without interference.
Addressing the issue raised by advocate Vaibhav Singh, who argued against using court premises for political purposes, Justice Manmohan assured that he would address the matter the following day, expressing hope that "sense will prevail." He also warned of potential action if necessary.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 and is currently in ED custody until March 28. He faces accusations of direct involvement in a conspiracy related to the formulation of the excise policy, allegedly favoring specific individuals.
