India has dismissed a report released by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) as biased and politically motivated. The report alleged that India, along with 16 other countries, is guilty of severe violations of religious freedom. India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, criticized the report, calling it anti-India propaganda that failed to understand the nation's diverse and pluralistic democratic ethos.
Jaiswal stated that the USCIRF's report is part of the organization's ongoing efforts to interfere in India's internal affairs and electoral processes. He emphasized that the USCIRF's attempts to influence the world's largest democratic exercise would not succeed. India's response underlined its position on religious freedom and reiterated its lack of expectations from the USCIRF to objectively assess the country's religious landscape.
The USCIRF report accused the Indian government of implementing discriminatory nationalist policies, perpetuating hateful rhetoric, and failing to address communal violence. The report highlighted incidents such as the Manipur and Haryana violence, as well as the detention of Kashmiri leaders following the abrogation of Article 370. However, India maintains its stance on the report's biased portrayal of the country.
