MASCAT: After defeating Thailand 17-0 in their final Pool A match, defending champions India advanced to the Men's Junior Asia Cup semifinals.

With victories against Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Thailand and a 1-1 tie with Pakistan, India is expected to finish first in the four-team Pool A with 10 points after four games thanks to goals by Angad Bir Singh (13th, 33rd, 47th, and 55th minutes).

Later on Monday, when Pool B leaders Malaysia are set to face Oman and Pool A leaders Pakistan are slated to play Japan, they will learn who their semifinal opponents will be.

If Pakistan defeated Japan by more than 14 goals in their final group match, they might overtake India for second place in Pool A.

Besides Angad, the other goal-getters for India late on Sunday night were Yogember Rawat (17th), captain Uttam Singh (24th, 31st), Amandeep Lakra (26th, 29th), Araijeet Singh Hundal (36th), Vishnukant Singh (38th), Bobby Singh Dhami (45th), Sharda Nand Tiwari (46th), Amandeep (47th), Rohit (49th), Sunit Lakra (54th) and Rajinder Singh (56th).

India attacked Thailand with monotonous regularity in the opening moments of the match, but it was unable to make a breakthrough. In addition to absorbing the pressure, Thailand also launched a few incursions into the enemy territory.

The 13th-minute goal by Angad gave the reigning champions an advantage, though, and they went on to win the game.

In the 17th minute, Yogember Rawat extended the lead. Before the half finished, skipper Uttam had also scored, this time from close range.

In the first minute of the third quarter, Uttam (31st) made it 6-0 by firing a shot from the top corner to the right. A few seconds later, Angad (33rd) added his second goal of the game.

Before the beginning of the fourth quarter, India had a 10-0 advantage.

Sharda Nand Tiwari (46th), Amandeep (47th), and Angad (47th) hit consecutively to make it 13-0 as India kept up its aggressive offensive strategy.
