New Delhi: Team India, captained by Virat Kohli, started with a defeat in the T20 World Cup 2021 campaign. Team India had suffered a crushing defeat by Pakistan in the first match. India will now take on New Zealand next. For both teams, the match is like a knockout match. In Dubai, the team that wins the crucial match on October 31 will have hopes of reaching the semi-finals, while the losing team will almost be out of the Super-4 race.

New Zealand, captained by India and Kane Williamson, has lost their first match. Both the teams have been defeated by Pakistan. Both the teams are in the same position. Babar Azam-led Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets, while They beat New Zealand by 5 wickets.  However, India's path against New Zealand is not going to be easy. India's record against New Zealand in the ICC tournament has been very poor. From the first T20 World Cup in 2007 to the World Test Championship final (WTC Final) played in England this year, the two teams have faced each other 7 times. New Zealand have won six matches, while one match was rain-hit. On the other hand, when it comes to the T20 World Cup, both the teams have clashed twice and both times Team India has suffered a setback. New Zealand beat India by 10 runs in the first T20 World Cup (2007) held in South Africa, while the Kiwis defeated India by 47 runs in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Team India won the ICC tournament against New Zealand 18 years ago. India beat New Zealand by 7 wickets in the 2003 ODI World Cup. In the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup, the New Zealand team dashed their hopes of reaching the final by defeating India. India and New Zealand have played 16 T20 Internationals so far, out of which the Kiwis have won 8 while India has won 6. 2 matches were tied. It will now be interesting to see if Team India breaks the wretched record of 18 years of defeat tomorrow.
