HYDERABAD: Research and innovation are still essential components for every society to advance. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday, India has encouraged indigenous research, which is now paying off for us.
On Saturday, Mandaviya inagurated the ICMR-NARFBR (National Animal Resource Facility for Biomedical Research) in Hyderabad's Genome Valley. Addressing the occasion, the Health Minister underscored government's push for indigenous research and innovation.

He said "The prime minister emphasised the need for domestic vaccine production during the Covid pandemic. When the world was experiencing vaccine scarcity, India stepped up to the plate, and our scientific community showed its mettle by developing those vaccines. With the assistance of the political leadership and the mobilisation of stakeholders, India's scientific community created these vaccinations in one year, when the import of foreign vaccines would have required 5–10 years." "India could become a major player in biomedical research in the twenty-first century thanks to ICMR-NARFBR. This resource facility can play a significant role in enhancing the health and welfare of the country by offering high-quality services in support of biomedical research and training while adhering to the strictest international standards for the treatment and use of humans and animals in research "He said.

The NARFBR is a premier facility that will ensure the welfare, usage, and care of laboratory animals while doing research. The newly constructed centre will serve as a cutting-edge facility for animal research spanning fundamental, applied, and regulatory disciplinesbesidesethical animal studies. It will support the development of new researchers' skills and establish procedures for pre-clinical testing of novel medications, vaccines, and diagnostics in the nation, along with quality assurance checks.

Celebrating India's manpower and brain power, Mandaviya said that Indians have consistently led the way in creative industries, whether they are research institutes, technology, pharmaceutical firms, etc.

He said that India plays a key role as the world's pharmacy "One tablet is produced in India for every four that are produced worldwide. Thus, we now intend to make India a powerhouse for pharmaceutical research as well as drug manufacture. To make this happen, we must establish reliable procedures for clinical studies, which necessitate the use of animal facilities. NARFBR will play a significant role in making this vision real."
