New Delhi: An indigenously manufactured helicopter successfully launched an anti-tank guided missile called 'HELINA' in high-altitude ranges on Monday, officials said.

The missile was successfully fired at a simulated tank target during the flight trials, which were conducted from an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH). The missile was guided by an Infrared Imaging Seeker (IIR) in the Lock on Before Launch mode, making it one of the world's most advanced anti-tank weapons.

As part of the user validation trials, scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Indian Army, and the Indian Air Force conducted a flight test.

Proof of efficacy at high altitudes, in addition to the Pokhran validation testing, clear the door for its incorporation on ALH. Senior Army commanders and senior scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation were present for the trials (DRDO).  Rajnath Singh, the Indian Defence Minister, commended the DRDO and the Indian Army on their first collaborative success.
