New Delhi: India has achieved another major position in the field of supersonic missiles. Today, a successful test of supersonic assisted release of torpedo (SMART) was conducted from The Whaler Island off odisha coast. During this test, the missile stood by all its standards and operational procedures and successfully penetrated the target.
On this success, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated the scientists of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). In a tweet, the defence minister said, "DRDO has successfully tested the supersonic assisted release of torpedo (SMART). This will prove to be another important technique towards creating stand-off capability in anti-sub-marine warfare. I congratulate drdo scientists and other stakeholders for this achievement. '
The missile will be very useful in the anti-submarine Warfare (ASW) campaign outside the range of torpedoes. The missile test has been overseen by different mechanisms (sea ships, coast and telemetry stations). Earlier this month, DRDO successfully test-launched a laser guided anti-tank missile. The missile has been tested from MBT Arjun tank.
