Durban: The Indian cricket team is set to engage in a red-ball series and a 50-over series following the upcoming 3-match T20I series against South Africa. The T20I series, much anticipated, is scheduled to kick off in Durban, with subsequent matches in Gqeberha and Johannesburg. The opening T20I at Kingsmead marks only the second encounter between India and South Africa at this venue, with India securing a 37-run victory in the previous match held in 2023.

Reviewing the history of T20Is at Kingsmead, the Proteas have contested 11 matches at the venue, winning five with a winning percentage of 45.45%. Visiting teams have emerged victorious in six matches. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Indian team in the T20I series, as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are granted a rest period. Ravindra Jadeja will serve as the vice-captain. Aiden Markram will captain the South African side for the series. The head-to-head T20I record between India and South Africa stands at 13 victories for India, 10 for South Africa, and one match concluding without a result in 24 encounters. On South African soil, India has secured victory in five out of seven matches, while the hosts have won two.

Examining the bowling statistics, pacers have taken 162 wickets at an average of 23.84 in 18 games, while spinners claimed 42 wickets at an average of 26.80. Teams batting first have won nine matches, while chasing has resulted in eight victories. The average first-innings total in Durban is 143.
