NEW DELHIH: India will hope to make their impact in the event when Esports make its debut as a medal event in the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023. India will compete in four events at the Asian Games after Hearthstone was removed from the schedule.
Indians will compete in four of the seven official Esports competitions, including DOTA 2, FIFA Online 4, League of Legends, and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. The 15-person Esports Federation of India team that will compete in the Asian Games was named.
Hearthstone was originally supposed to be a part of the Asian Games, and Shikhar Choudhary and Karthik Varma from India were set to compete for their nation in that game. However, in March, Hearthstone was taken out of the Asian Games Esports programme.
While Dream Three Kingdoms 2 is not available in India, two of the other Esports competitions, Arena of Valour and PUBG Mobile Asian Games Version, are.
"The days we once dreamed of for Indian Esports are now at last here," remarked Lokesh Suji, Director, Esports Federation of India and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF). The variety of games in the Asian Games will not only highlight the diversity of Esports but will also highlight many facets of athletes' skill, strategy, and teamwork to provide fans with an all-around experience.
