New Delhi: Crossing rivers, drains, and ponds without a bridge are considered to be a very difficult task on the battlefield. The absence of a bridge can disrupt the work of the army of any country in the war zone. Short span bridges are extremely useful for dealing with such situations. Through this system, temporary bridges are quickly constructed and the forces reach their destinations. The Indian Army also now has the option of a short-span bridge.
Indian Army will soon have 100 of these systems, which can carry the load of heavy tanks and infantry combat vehicles. Such systems can easily overcome obstacles caused by water. The system that had to be resorted to in the past requires the help of 30 to 40 people who built temporary bridges together. But with the new short span bridge system, the bridge will be ready in just 8 to 10 minutes and does not require many people. It can be prepared by only 4 people in a very short time.
In the presence of Indian Army Chief Manoj Mukund Narwane, the Corps of Engineers in Delhi has been awarded the first batch of 12 indigenously designed and developed short-span bridging systems. Narwane further said, 'This will increase our capabilities. We already had bridges of 5 meters and 15 meters, but 10 meters were also required. This will speed up the machined formation of western borders.' The system has been developed by DRDO and manufactured by Larsen & Toubro Ltd.
