New Delhi: The Indian Digital Media Association (IDMA) has expressed shock at the arrest of 'Republic TV' editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and the 'arbitrariness' of the Mumbai Police. According to 'Republic TV', Arnab was abused, he was forced to use several vehicles interchangeably while being taken to the police station.

The channel has also told that there was neither a warrant nor any court paper for the arrest of Arnab Goswami. IDMA said that the visuals seen in the video showed that the police were continuously pressurizing Arnab Goswami's wife and forcing them to sign a document, and what those documents were, it is not clear. IDMA termed it as a "shocking state of the arbitrariness of the Government of Maharashtra" and said that the state machinery was being used to silence a journalist.

IDMA also reminded that the Maharashtra government was criticized by both channels of the 'Republic Media Network', hence this action can be considered as an action taken with 'sentiment of revenge'. IDMA not only called it a violation of media freedom, but also a violation of personal freedom. It is said that it is an encroachment of the freedom, which has been provided to every citizen by the Constitution of India.
