Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has made it to the men's long jump final at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, the USA on Saturday. He has come in 7th place in the qualification round. Sreeshankar ranked 13th in the world, became the first Indian to achieve the feat with a jump of 8 meters. Apart from Murali Srishankar, Avinash Sable has made it to the final with a strong performance.  

Sreeshankar, who has been consistently performing well so far this season, has also jumped 8.36 metres in the month of May. Sreeshankar, 23, had made another big jump of 8.31m at an event in Greece this season. In this, he had to share second place with Olympic champion Miltiadis Tangoglu of Greece. After which he won the gold medal in the National Inter-State Championships by jumping 8.23 m. Now it will be interesting to see what he is going to do in the final of the World Athletics Championships.  

Apart from Murali Sreeshankar, Indian long jumpers Jeswin Aldrin and Mohammad Anees Yahya could not make it to the next stage with efforts of 7.79m and 7.73m respectively. At the same time, Avinash Sable qualified in the final for the men's long jump and men's 3000m steeplechase event.
