New Delhi: The Aviation Ministry of the Narendra Modi government at the Center has written to Indian airlines and airport operators advising them to play Indian music on flights and airports, citing the request of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Actually, ICCR had submitted a memorandum to the Center a few days back.

Citing examples of other airlines playing their country's music in their respective countries, the ministry has directed Indian airlines to follow in their footsteps. Let us tell you that jazz is played on American Airlines and Mozart music is played on Austrian Airlines. In media reports, citing a letter written by Usha Padhi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, said, 'The music played by most of the airlines all over the world is the best of that country'.

In the letter, he cited examples of American airlines playing jazz or Austrian airlines playing Mozart and Middle Eastern airlines playing Arab music. Indian airlines rarely play Indian music in flight. We have a rich heritage and culture of music which every Indian really has a reason to be proud of. It is requested that please consider playing Indian music on flights and airports operating in India, following the requisite requirements, the ministry said.
