New Delhi: The 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction has an Indian player for which all teams can make heavy bids. Shreyas Iyer, who recently made his Test debut, looks like a better contender for all teams. Shreyas has grown much higher than the rest of the players after he was captained in the season between Delhi Daredevils (DC) in 2018. Shreyas seems to be a fit candidate for some franchises that are looking for a captain for their team.
Shreyas Iyer had earlier demanded that Delhi captain again before the retention list came out. Delhi handed over the command to Rishabh Pant after Iyer was injured in IPL 2021 and Delhi wants to retain Rishabh Pant as captain in the next IPL as well, which led to Delhi releasing Iyer. Shreyas Iyer has played 41 matches as captain for Delhi, out of which Delhi has won 21 and lost 18 and tied 2 matches.
Since then there has been speculation that Shreyas Iyer may be seen as Ahmedabad captain, but recently there has been talking once again that Shah Rukh Khan's team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may also make Shreyas Iyer their captain. KKR released its captain Ion Morgan before the IPL 2022. It was certain that Kolkata would go down next season with new leadership. Shreyas Iyer could also prove to be a brilliant captain for Kolkata. It will be interesting to see which team Iyer goes to and what responsibility he gets.
