New Delhi: With a view to making the Chardham Yatra easy for pilgrims, the Railways have decided to prepare 327kms of the track. This railway track will connect Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath with a link. This railway line will pass through Dehradun and Karnprayag. The project is expected to cost around Rs 43,292 crore.

According to the information given by Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, the route of this rail track will pass through Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri Garhwal, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi. Earlier on 13 May 2017, former Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu laid the foundation stone for single broad gauge rail connectivity in Badrinath. According to the Railway Ministry, this railway line will go through the hilly region of the Himalayas. To complete this long railway line, the Indian Railways will have to face many difficulties in the mountains.

In addition to unfavourable geographical location, there will be limitations of capacity, load, speed and safety. Religious and spiritually important, these four Dhams are situated at high altitude above sea level. Along with this, they all have different heights. In such a situation, the railways will have to work hard to prepare the infrastructure. This project is important in religious terms, on the other hand, it will be an example in terms of connectivity of remote areas.
