Amritsar: Due to farmer agitation in Punjab, rail traffic is badly affected. The agitating farmers in the state are frozen at many places including the railway premises, platforms and railway tracks. Due to which trains are not operating. Railways are losing crores due to the protests of farmers in Punjab.

50 days have passed in the protests of farmers in Punjab. 1,986 passenger trains i.e. passenger trains and 3,090 goods trains have been cancelled due to the agitation. According to media reports, Indian Railways has incurred a loss of Rs 1,670 crore in freight revenue. The operation of trains in the state is still at a standstill. Between 01 October and 15 November, railways have lost crores due to cancellation of goods trains.

Indian Railways are estimated to lose 36 crore freight every day. According to the information given by the sources, 520 rakes of coal could not be supplied to five powerhouses in Punjab, due to which the Indian Railways have lost Rs 550 crore. In Punjab, farmers organizations are protesting against the Agriculture Bill at many places including railway tracks. In the midst of the demonstration, the operation of trains and goods trains on several railway tracks in Punjab has been affected. The supply of coal in all the thermal power plants of the state is also being affected.
