New Delhi: You may now have to spend more to travel on a train. Tickets may be costly after the new railway rule. In fact, Indian Railways is also now preparing to charge user charges at the railway station like the airport. According to sources, the Modi cabinet may approve the railway UDF next month. However, the charge will be taken up at some railway stations initially. The user charge will be added to the ticket money. Your ticket may be somewhat costly by joining the charge.
After the new announcement, the railways can charge user at 10 to 15 per cent of the total railway stations. A total of 1050 such stations have been identified. These are stations where there is a readiness to increase footfall. The increase in footfall will be put into the redevelopment to augment the capacity of railway stations. User charge will be levied at stations which will be recovered.
According to sources, udf charges can be levied initially ranging from Rs. 10 to Rs. 35. These will apply different user charges to different categories. According to sources, UDF may apply in five categories. Most will apply to AC-1, while the sleeper will be the lowest.
