TasteAtlas, the world’s local guide to cuisine, dining and culinary experience released the list of ‘100 most iconic restaurants in the world 2024.’ And seven food landmarks from India have secured a position among the world’s best. Out of these, 2 have made it in the top 10. The diverse Indian flavors, long drawn culinary heritage that stands firm with its authenticity and tradition with its fine cuisine and rich culture has gained global recognition. Among the various categories released, India has won big in the list of Iconic restaurants.

Some of the restaurants have a long history that dates back to 1930s carrying on a legacy forward. Paragon’s Malabar biryani, Gulati’s butter chicken and Karim’s Korma continue to make these restaurants, iconic landmarks. Check out the complete list-

Paragon restaurant, Kozhikode

Biryani? Kozhikode it is. Not had biryani here, that means you have not known flavor and spices yet. Kerala’s go to culinary destination, Kozhikode is known for its generation old biryani that is well blended with spices, flavors and meat in the soft white aroma rich rice. The Paragon restaurant has been in business since 1939 treating the visitors with the real Malabar delight in its delicacies. TasteAtlas ranked it 5th in the most iconic 100.

Peter Cat, Kolkata

The Chelow Kebab (Persian inspired delicacy) made this culinary landmark secure 7th position on the list. Peter Cat restaurant is located on Kolkata’s Park street and was discovered in 1975. The place is known for its charm and showcases the vibrant culture of Kolkata with a retro vibe. Peter cat is popular among the locals as well as the tourists, for it serves the best delicacies in town.

Amrik Sukhdev, Murthal (Delhi)

Aloo Paratha could beat the best, Amrik Sukhdev restaurant occupied 13th spot in the long list of restaurants. For travelers, Amrik Sukhdev is the ultimate food destination where they can relieve and savor the original North Indian taste. Located on NH1 highway passing through Murthal, Amrik Sukhdev was originally a dhaba that was meant to serve food to the truck drivers. Started in 1956, it served dal, roti and sabzi on a charpai, today it is a multi-cuisine restaurant that offers Indian, Chinese and continental dishes.

Karim’s, New Delhi

How could the Karim’s not be in the list? The Karim’s ranked 59th among the 100. It would be fair enough to call it ‘Legend’ of the old city of Delhi that offers hospitality like on other. The Karim’s is serving Mughlai dishes since a century now, beginning in 1913. With its recipes that have travelled from generations, Karim’s is the representation of the age old tradition of the Indian capital. Out of all the best dishes served, the Korma of Karim’s has no match. And it’s real bustling during Ramadan.

Central Tiffin room, Bangalore

The world famous dosa of the Central Tiffin room of Bangalore landed the restaurant on the 69th position. The Sri Sagar hotel is now only famous as the CTR. It was established in 1920s and is now an iconic breakfast joint famous for its benne dosas, idlis, bajji and coffee. CTR has become a legendary heritage restaurant that is etched deep in the culinary history of Bangalore. For the past 100+ years, CTR continues to add to its glory and fortune.

Gulati, New Delhi

Since 1959, Gulati has served the best of food carving its own niche making the perfect creamy, spicy and simply yummy butter chicken. It offers the real comfort food that draws the flock of visitors from all over, even become a staple among the foreigners.

Ram Ashraya, Mumbai

This Indian restaurant has been in operation since 1939. Ram Ashraya serves the best in breakfast and other light meals that keep the Matunga food joint bustling whole day. The simple, subtle and satisfying flavors from the Indian cuisine are a part of the menu. Out of all the dishes, its signature best is the Upma which is the finely flavored semolina dish. Ram Ashray is ranked 77th by the TasteAtlas.
