Washington: A 29-year-old Indian has died in California, while trying to save three children from drowning. According to 'Los Angeles Times' news, the deceased has been identified as Manjeet Singh. He had come for a stroll on Reedley Beach near his home in Fesano County on Wednesday (August 5). During this time he was seen drowning three children in King's River.

Media quoted Reedley Police Department Commander Mark Ediger as saying that two eight-year-old girls and a 10-year-old child were playing in the river. During this time a wave swept them under the bridge. During this, Singh, who was swimming in the river with his brother-in-law and other friends, took off his turban and with its support started trying to pull the children towards him, but he went on pulling himself towards the children. Reedley Police Commander Ediger said, "He unfortunately drowned in an attempt to save the children and could not return."

Singh did not act for 40 minutes after drowning in water. After this, he was evacuated to hospital, where he was declared dead. Ediger said that during this time people passing by saved two children safely. An eight-year-old girl was immersed in water for 15 minutes and then she was also safely saved. On Friday (August 7) afternoon, he was taken to Valley Children's Hospital in Fresno, where his condition remains critical. Singh went to California two years ago from India.
