Under the leadership of former world champion Vishwanathan Anand, the Indian team, adorned with star players, will be eyeing a medal in the top division of the online World Chess Olympiad, starting on Friday.

In this virtual tournament, teams from China, Russia and America are strong contenders for winning the medal. Also, India has been seeded seventh with an average rating of 2419, which is in Pool 'A' of the top division. Which includes Vietnam, Germany, Iran, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Zimbabwe in addition to strong teams like China and Georgia.

Also, in the online Olympiad, there will be six players in each team, which will include at least two women. A male and a female player must be 20 years old or younger. Three of the top three teams from the top division will reach the knockout stage. Along with this, the Indian team had finished fifth among six teams in the Online Nations Cup held in May, and now they would like to make up for it with the best performance in the Olympiad.
