Indian trains not safe for sister-daughters, rape cases rise to horrific

NEW DELHI: Cases of crime against women in the country are on the rise, but now there is a alarming increase in rape cases on Indian trains. Daughters, daughters of the country, can no longer travel safely even in trains. Parents will think many times before sending them to travel in trains alone. A total of 189 cases of rape have come to light in Indian Railways trains from 2013 to 2018.

Instead of reducing rape cases in trains, the number of rapecases is increasing year after year. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. Piyush Goyal said that cases of rape as well as looting are on the rise. Between 2013 and 2018, there were 4697 incidents of looting on trains. He said that between 2013 and 2018, the highest number of 42 rape cases were reported in trains in the Northern Railway Zone. The Central Railway is second with 36 rape cases followed and West Central Railway third with 33 cases.

The lowest number of rape cases have been registered from the South Railway and The South Western Railway Zone. Between 2013 and 2018, only 1-1 rape cases have been registered in both zones. There have been 4697 incidents of looting on trains between 2013 and 2018. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said that cases of looting have also increased. Railway security forces have been asked to be more vigilant to prevent them.
