New Delhi: According to the MET department, the monsoon will depart from all over the country on October 26 next week and the northeast monsoon will open. The rain in north India is yet to end. Rain is also expected on Thursday from the mountains of Uttarakhand to the plains of Bihar. The MET department has predicted rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from October 22 to 24. It will also open the way for the northeast monsoon to arrive.

The MET department said on Wednesday that the southwest monsoon is still raining heavily in parts of the country after a delayed departure from northwest India. The return of the southwest monsoon this year began on October 6. This is the second delayed withdrawal since 1975. Earlier in 2019, the departure of the southwest monsoon began on October 9. Generally, the southwest monsoon starts moving back from northwest India on September 17. The MET department said that with the departure of southwest monsoon by October 26, northeast monsoon rainfall will start in southeast India. The northeast monsoon causes rain in Tamil Nadu, parts of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Puducherry.

In Kerala, 39 people have lost their lives and 217 houses have been completely destroyed due to landslides and floods due to heavy rains. CM Pinarayi Vijayan informed the assembly that at least six people are yet to be traced and 304 rehabilitation camps have been started after heavy rains in several parts of the state. In Uttarakhand, 52 people have also died due to rain and flood-related accidents.
