Indian Wushu team grabs 9 medals at the Asian Wushu Championships

NEW DELHI: The Indian Contingent at the 6th Asian Wushu Championshipswon gave a scintillating performance and won  four silver and five bronze medals under their coach from Jammu and Kashmir, Kuldeep Handoo.

In order to be fully prepared, Indian Wushu team attended one-month foreign exposure training at Shandong, China prior to the Asian Championship. The event witnessed wushu artists from over 24 Asian countries with China finishing  with maximum medals  followed by Iran and Vietnam.

Taiwan on Mo.Pars Cup gold-medallist L Budhachandra Singh secured the silver medal after losing the gold medal bout against Van Bau of Vietnam in the 56 kg category while Praveen Kumar lost the 48Kg finals to Minh Duc Vu.  K Arunpama Devi (90Kg) and Rajinder Singh (60Kg) also managed to get their silvers.

Silver: L Budha Chandra Singh (Budha Chandra Singh (56Kg), Praveen Kumar (48Kg), Rajinder Singh (90Kg), K Arunpama Devi (60Kg).

Bronze: Y Santhoi Devi (52Kg), Pooja Kadian (65Kg), Vishakha Malik (70Kg), Rajani Deori (75Kg).

Wushu which was first introduced in India in 1989, is a form of martial art practices having its roots in China. It is categorized into two main categories, namely Taolu (Routines Competition) and Sanda (Free-Fighting Competition).
