TEXAS: Juli A. Mathew, an Indian-American Democrat, took the oath to serve a second term as a judge in Fort Bend County, Texas.

Mathew, a native of Thiruvalla in the state of Kerala, was sworn in by videoconference from Bheemanady in Kasaragod and will keep his position as presiding judge for Fort Bend County Court Number 3 for another four years.
She stood for re-election and defeated Republican Andrew Dornburg with 123,116 votes.

After winning, Mathew wrote on Facebook, "I'm grateful for every supporter, prayer warrior, and voter during this road."

Mathew defeated Republican Tricia Krenek in her 2018 election race for the court by a commanding 8.24 percent margin, becoming the first Indian-American woman elected to the bench in the US.

Mathew has been a practising lawyer for 15 years and is the chief judge of the first juvenile intervention and mental health court. He has experience in mass tort, civil litigation, probate, and criminal cases.

Judge Mathew was born and raised in Philadelphia, where she also attended Penn State University before earning her law degree at Delaware Law School.

She founded the Juvenile Intervention and Mental Health Court in January 2021 to help young people with mental health concerns, which is just one of her academic accomplishments.
