New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored on Saturday that India maintains a stringent policy of absolute intolerance towards corruption during the G20 Anti-Corruption Ministerial Meeting.

Addressing the gathering virtually, the prime minister reaffirmed India's unwavering dedication to eradicating corruption and promoting transparent governance. PM Modi emphasized that India is harnessing technology and e-governance to establish a transparent and responsible framework.

In his opening statement, the prime minister drew inspiration from poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore and issued a cautionary warning about the corrosive influence of greed on truth and integrity.
Highlighting the severe consequences of corruption, PM Modi emphasized its disproportionate impact on marginalized segments of society. He highlighted the distortion of resource allocation, market equilibrium, and the erosion of crucial public services.

Reiterating India's steadfast position, Modi underscored the country's utilization of technology and e-governance to set up a responsible and transparent administrative structure. This comprehensive approach has notably minimized inefficiencies and leakages in welfare programs, resulting in direct benefit transfers totaling over 360 billion dollars for millions of citizens.

PM Modi also showcased India's advancements in streamlining business operations, citing successful instances of automating government services. The effectiveness of the economic offenders' act and the prevention of money laundering act was commended for aiding substantial asset recovery from economic wrongdoers and fugitives.

Reflecting on past global involvements, PM Modi recalled his early discourse on fugitive economic offenders during the 2014 G-20 Summit. He took pride in presenting a comprehensive nine-point action plan in 2018 to counter economic offenders and enhance asset recovery efforts.

PM Modi appealed for fortified international cooperation in law enforcement to eliminate potential legal loopholes exploited by transnational criminals. He also mentioned presenting a nine-point agenda for action against fugitive economic offenders and asset recovery at the G-20 Summit in 2018 and expressed contentment over the decisive measures taken by the working group.

The prime minister affirmed that the combined endeavors of the G20 nations can significantly bolster the fight against corruption, and substantial progress can be achieved through heightened international collaboration and the implementation of robust measures that target the root causes of corruption. He also underscored the role of audit institutions in combating corruption.

Concluding his address, PM Modi urged the dignitaries to cultivate a culture of ethics and integrity within their value systems while reinforcing their administrative and legal frameworks. "Only by doing so can we lay the groundwork for a fair and sustainable society. I extend my best wishes for a productive and successful meeting," he remarked.
