New Delhi: India and US trade ministers will discuss issues such as medical devices, agriculture and the resumption of export management on behalf of the US for India at the meeting in Washington. An inter-ministerial delegation, headed by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, has gone to the United States for talks with Robert Laithizer, the US trade representative.

The Indian delegation also includes representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Indian Council of Medical Research and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Both sides will discuss pending bilateral trade issues to arrive at a conclusion that is beneficial to both sides. Both sides are negotiating trade packages to promote trade. The US withdrew export incentives given to Indian exporters due to GSP. In response, India increased the customs duty on 28 products imported from the US.

Simultaneously, India is seeking market access to its products for agriculture, automobiles, auto components and engineering goods, along with reintroducing export profits on some household items under the GSP (Generalized Preferential Trade Regime). At the same time, America wants better market access for dairy products and medical devices. The officers said, "All these issues are to be discussed in the meeting." India exports about $ 6 billion to the US under the Export Promotion Scheme. In view of this situation, India may demand exemption from the high duty imposed by the US on some steel and aluminum products.
