Lucknow: The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its verdict on a petition related to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The petition had challenged the decision to deny sanction to prosecute Yogi for giving inflammatory speeches. In 2007, the then Lok Sabha MP Yogi Adityanath made an alleged inflammatory speech in Gorakhpur.

The Supreme Court has issued a notice against the Allahabad High Court's decision to quash the case. In this case, the UP government had not allowed legal action and the Allahabad High Court had stamped the decision of the UP government. Earlier, while hearing the case of alleged inflammatory speeches against CM Yogi in the 2007 Gorakhpur riots, the apex court had directed to make all the accused, including Yogi Adityanath. In 2008, Mohammad Asad Hayat and Parvez had petitioned the high court seeking a CBI probe after a man lost his life in the riots. In the petition, the alleged inflammatory speech given by Yogi was cited as the reason for the riots.

After this, the then Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath was arrested and kept in police custody for 11 days. The recent petition has sought an inquiry against Yogi under sections 302, 307, 153A, 395 and 295 of the IPC. At that time, the case was investigated by CB-CID and in 2013, Yogi's voice was found to be correct in the recording of inflammatory speech. Raj Kumar Agrahari was killed during Hindu-Muslim riots in January 2007. After this, Yogi Adityanath reached there, while the District Magistrate had ordered them not to go there so that the tension does not increase further. It was here that he gave an inflammatory speech.
