DAKSHINA KANNADA: Hindu organisations have raised objections to an interfaith couple applying for marriage at a sub-registrar's office in Dakshina Kannada suspecting it to be a "love jihad" case.
The incident came to light after the office of the registrar requested any objections to the marriage as per standard practise. It had provided a 30-day window for registering opposition.
The girl, who reportedly hails from Darbe near Puttur town in Dakshina Kannada, is presently residing in Bangalore, the source said. Sheik Mohammad Saleem, 44, a native of Nyapanahalli in Bangalore, is the man. Both had submitted marriage applications to a sub-registrar's office.
Concerns have been raised about the situation, and neither the police nor the girl's parents have released a statement.
Earlier on September 18, it had also reported, in another incident that an interfaith couple, who were forcibly stopped from getting married by members of the Bajrang Dal at a sub-registrar’s office in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru, have countered allegations of ‘love jihad’, saying they were getting married for love and had no plans for any religious conversion.
