HANOI: Following the resumption of tourism operations as well as the number of foreign flights, Vietnam saw over 192,400 international arrivals in the first four months of this year, rising nearly 185 percent year on year, according to the General Statistics Office.
According to reports, travellers entering the country by plane accounted for about 88.6% of the total over the period. Approximately 118,300 foreign travellers from Asia visited Vietnam in the last four months, jumping 96.7 percent year on year. In comparison to the same period last year, the number of tourists from Europe, the Americas, and Oceania increased by more than six times, 15 and 19, respectively.
On March 15, Vietnam fully reopened its borders to overseas visitors as part of its efforts to resurrect the country's tourism and economy following a nearly two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
According to the government, the Southeast Asian nation got a record number of overseas arrivals in 2019, the last full year before the pandemic broke out. In 2020 and 2021, the number of overseas visitors to Vietnam fell by 78.7% and 95.9%, respectively.
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the government aims to serve over 5 million international tourists by 2022.
