The International Chess Federation (FIDE) announced on Tuesday that the 2020 Online Olympiad will be held from July 22 to August 30. The federation said that the online Olympiad is a national team event in which all federations recognized by FIDE have the right to participate.

Each team will have six players. It will be a mixed-format team with a minimum of three women and two junior players. There is a possibility of having six reserve players and one other team captain in the team.

This event is played on the basis of 'time control', in which 15 minutes and five seconds are available for each move. There are two main stages in this competition: the division stage and the play-off stage. The play-off phase takes place from the Round of 16 to the finals. The registration form for this tournament will be available on the FIDE website in the next few days. Further orders will be given to the national federations via email and registration will run till July 4.
